"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

On This Day in 1940 - The Battle of Britain began. It lasted for 114 days, ending on October 31, 1940. After France surrendered to Germany, Hitler set his sights on Britain. The battle began with Germany focusing on destroying shipping in the English Channel and attacking coastal towns. The British were putting up a good fight, though, and Goering grew more and more frustrated. In September, Hitler decided to go after London and other major cities. Germany didn’t dominate the skies quite like Hitler had imagined so they postponed their attacks in order to give more attention to the invasion of the Soviet Union.
